E-bikes, E-scooters & Volunteering
Good evening, Tiffany Hills’ families
We would like to share some important updates that are being implemented immediately to help ensure the safety and well-being of all students, staff, and visitors at our school.
E-Bikes and E-scooters
This message is for clarification on provincial (MTO) legislation and local enforcement (Hamilton Police Service) regarding student use of e-bikes and e-scooters, and outlines expectations for schools related to storage and use on school property.
E-Bikes and E-Scooters (Students Under 16)
With immediate effect, students under 16 are not permitted to bring e-bikes or e-scooters to school. These devices must not to be stored on school property and must not be brought into school buildings.
Non-Electronic Bicycles and Scooters
Students may continue to bring non-electric bicycles and non-electric scooters to school. These items must be stored on designated outdoor bike racks only and must not be brought into school buildings.
Update to Volunteer Procedure (Vulnerable Sector Screening)
To ensure implementation of new provincial requirements, the following process is effective immediately.
New Volunteers
All volunteers are required to provide an original current Police Records Check – Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC). A current Vulnerable Sector Check is issued within the last six months requested for HWDSB.
The original copy of the Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) will be kept by the school.
The office will provide all volunteers with a letter stating responsibilities within the school if needed for requesting the VSC.
Existing Volunteers
If a volunteer has submitted a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) within the past three (3) years and a hard copy is on file at the school, the VSC may be extended for a total validity period of five (5) years.
If the VSC was previously reviewed but no hard copy is on file, the volunteer must provide a hard copy of the VSC for school records.
If a hard copy of the current VSC cannot be obtained, the volunteer will be required to submit a new VSC. A newly issued VSC will be valid for five (5) years, provided that an Offence Declaration is completed and signed annually.
We greatly appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and supportive school environment for everyone.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school office.
Sincerely,
R. Mc Nicholls-Ramrattan (Principal)
M. Finstad (Temporary vice-principal)
